B-day party! 30 hours in a row! :D

Niki´s 21t Bday was on July 27 so we both agreed that the best way to celebrate it is from midnight till midnight! So on Friday I had the most amazing day with a friend C. from HRC (we were swimming in the river and having fun all day) and then went pick up Niki from work. And because I am not 21 yet we also bought beers and wine so we can celebrate together in our place.

Everything went as planned to the moment when we realized that we forgot the bottles in C.´s house :D So we just went to our place to take Niki´s passport so at least she could drink alcohol in a bar.
We went to the famous bar- Harry´s where we- people from Hard Rock Cafe go after shift. Niki had about 10 shots with C. and it resulted only in one fact- C. was wasted and Niki pretty much okay (just giggling all the time) :D We from Slovakia know how to drink! :D haha

When it got quite late we decided to go to our place because C. couldn´t drive back home, but on our way home we changed our minds and went straight to his place on his car (a friend of C. - S. drove us there).
We drank the forgotten bottles and had a lot of FUN!!!

In the morning I woke up first (as usually) and went for a walk with C.´s most amazing dog Moose. It felt like I was living there... walking my dog across the most awesome American neighborhood ever- It made me miss Daisy even more!

At about 11.30am S. drove us home so we could continue with celebrating. C. had to get some sleep because he had to go to work at 4pm! Poor boy.
When we got home we had to clean all apartment because in few hours there was supposed to be a party (yeah, another one! :D ) We went to a shop to buy some beers, wine, chips, red plastic cups, soda and vod(k)a. It was Niki´s B-day so she could finally buy it herself! :)

At first we felt like canceling the party thinking that it is not gonna worth it. Luckily we didn´t!

It was LEGEN...wait for it... DARY!!!! I won´t write down the details (you can prob. imagine it yourselves haha) but everybody enjoyed it! Strange people were coming to our house that they want to party with us!

I can´t believe nobody from our neighbors did´t call the cops- the music was LOUD, we were LOUD- with our windows open and till 7am!!!

It was awesome... Let´s look at the PHOTOS :)

Busy Bee :)

We are sorry you haven´t heard from us for quite a long time but we spent most of the time in work making money to achieve our dreams :) I never understood my friends who were in the USA last year how that can be- not having time to write and send one message or post on a blog. Now I get it completely and I can tell- I am the same as they are/were.

BTW...Nothing much has changed. Niki is still a hostess and I have now three positions- PrepCook, LineCook and FoodRunner. Thanks to the fact that I have 3 positions I have a free food almost everyday (so I save some money) and more working hours and that means (or should mean) more money to spend on things that I love.

We experienced a real American Party in a club- that means having so much fun, getting in, eating, drinking and not paying a single dollar at the same time :D We (Niki, I, Vierka and Nelly- all girls from Slovakia) went there a little bit late wearing nice dress in a great mood. Young. Free. Happy.

The admission fee was 20 bucks so we had to make up some plan how to get in for free. We tried to convince the guard but we failed. Fortunately we met three guys in their 30ties from Europe who were disposed to pay for us. (We felt like in some American movie! :)) We had SO much fun! The guard even came to us with delicious cupcakes!
At 3am the club closes so we had to go out where the gentlemen bought us a cheese pizza (Exactly the same as Kevin has in the movie Home Alone) and some drinks.

I was a great night- we had so much fun and didn´t spend a single dollar! We got home at 4.30am approx. and Jameil was still up because he was afraid if something bad happened to us because we forgot to tell him that we are going to a party.

We have more stories to tell you (ZOO, museum of natural history, Spanish, unexpected green party...) but almost no time to do so. Now I have a day off finally but I won´t sit home alone. We agreed with Vierka that we are going to explore the city together :)

Wait for more stories and photos!

Take care, say Hi! to everybody we know and stay in touch :) We miss you all! ♥

Yahoooo my baby was delivered!

When Jameil woke up we decided to finally go to the DC Library. And because we both love books we spent there almost 2 and half hour and that was only because I had to go to work soon- it has 3 storeys and we only had time for one and half!
He was there with Niki a day ago and they didn´t borrow a single book but when Jameil and I went there we borrowed about 8 books/audiobooks. I was mainly looking for some Spanish textbook (I borrowed a Spanish textbook and also an audiobook) so I can learn Spanish during my free time when it is raining or too lte to go out alone. Next thing that I was looking for was some Trip-Advisor-Book that help us to plan out trip to NYC (♥) nd mainly California + some tips in DC.

I found one super cool book - Free and dirt cheap Washington DC- where are all the cool places in DC and what is the best- almost for free!
Jameil borrowed a comic-book and some other books that I don´t know- btw he is super fast reader!
But what made me happy the most was that he took a book called "I can help you quit" (or something like that) that I found and showed him. Quit smoking of course. I was surprised that he actually took the book nd what is more he really start to work on it! There is also a CD which it supposed to hypnotize you to make the results even better! :) We´ll see how it works! :) He also borrowed a Czech textbook/audiobook (they don´t have Slovak) so we could talk in Czech, Spanish and English :)))

When we came back home there was the biggest surprise for me! My new longboard (this time a small Freeride Riot Madrid so I can travel with him and carry it on my backpack) was delivered while I was in the library with our roomie. I was SUPER happy about it but unfortunatelly I had to go to work so I couldn´t mount it in that day.I did that the next day and went to work on it so instead of 35 minutes I spent only 12 minutes on my baby :) It it SUPER amazing! ♥ :)

4th July- The Independence Day!

As you know, the Americans take this day very seriously but that doesn´t mean that they don´t work during holidays. We were both at work but that was maybe because they know that we are just the J1 students from Europe.

We were looking forward to this day but unfortunately we didn´t see any fireworks after all. It is not like I like fireworks- actualy I don´t at all because it costs a lot of money and it polutes the air but anyway- The Independence Day in the USA and even in the capital- DC that it just something that we wanted to see.

We agreed with Jamail that he will pick us up in Hard Rock at 11.30pm and then we are gonna party. We were cut on 11.35 so as we thought- it will be just fine because Jamail use to be late. When we got out of HRC it was about 11.40- 11.42pm and Jamail nowhere. We waited for him till midnight and when he didn´t show up we went home- dissapointed and starving.

When we arrived home Jamail wasn´t neither at home so the first thought was that he just forgot about us and went to some party without us.
He came home 10 minutes after us. He was mad that we didn´t wait for him as we planned (which was not true)

Anyway... Eventhough we still don´t know what happened and how we couldn´t see each other we celebrated the July 4th anyway! Our lovely Jamail brought some tequilla and a juice so we got drunk slightly. We danced a little bit and then went out. And because it was kinda late already most of the bars were closed so we just bought pizza at U street and went home. Full and happy :)

I slept for about 3,5 hours and then had to go to work for 14 hours! It wasn´t that bad as it sounds though :)

Hope you are having a good time :) Miss you all! :)

Hard Working...

To make the story short... I´ve never worked that hard in my whole "5 year sweet-shop carier" than today.

13 hours. Milion people. Running the food up and down again, again and again. Cereal for breakfast, salad for lunch.

No energy left, my feet hurt as hell.

Good night.

Tomorrow ---> JULY 4th!!! Happy Independence day! Sooooo many people coming up! Can´t wait...

What do we eat here in the sweet US?

Here are some photos of the food that we eat here in America where everything is either too sweet, too salty, too unhealthy or too expensive. We eat only at home and we cook almost everyday. (We were in a restaurant only once and regret it till today because we paid $20 for a tiny tot pizza!!!)

Enjoy! :)

Snack for vegetarians in a plane

Pasta with a red tomato sauce and cheese
Scrambled eggs with mushrooms and sweet (bleh) bread
Best pizza ever (cheap during the HappyHours)
Elbow pasta with eggs and disgusting sweet cucumber
Veggie sausages with mushrooms and potatos
Confetti rice with vegetables and cheese
Scrambled eggs
Spinach! Home-made and d.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s (tasted like home)
Veggie burger
Frozen huge pizza for 3bucks
Almost daily breakfast- oatmeal with cinamon and cocoa
Spagetti with tomato sauce and meatless-balls
Confetti rice
FIRST BREAD (not sweet) it´s ITALIAN! :) Maji from youuuu :)
Hard rock Cafe Cesar salad with blue cheese dressing (my vitamin bomb)
Because vegetable is so expensive here I´m enjoying the free food in HRC :)

Defending my rights!

I already wrote something about working in the Hard Rock Cafe. It is a great place to work there but there are few things that I just can´t let go.

After every FoodRunner shift we have to collect our tips. Sounds like a nice activity to collect money but the opposite is truth. We have to beg all the servers to give us the right amount of the money due to the Net sales (it says how much does HRC earn that day/shift). Some are nice and always honest, some are not. Unfortunately the non-honest ones are dominion.

Yesterday I was in kinda good mood but then there came the collecting of the tips. Everybody was like "Wait a minute"..."Give me a second" etc... I spent the whole break by collecting the money so I could barely eat well (And I was working from 11am till 9.30pm!!!) One of the servers (the biggest one- he weights 200kg and is 2,5m tall) when I asked for the bill of the NetSales (so I could check the right amount of the money that he was supposed to give us) he put on the most horrible face and warned me "You don´t EVER ask for the bill again!!! Are we clear?"
In the normal situation I would just walk away but not now, no when it was about the money that I have to pay rent with. (And it is not a small amount of money! )
I get so mad that I almost burst into tears told him that it is my right to see the bill and I AM gonna ask for the bill every time. 15 seconds later when a manager went by with a smile on his face and the usual "Heeey everything´s okay?" I had no more energy and mood to say "Sure, everything´s okay" with a fake smile like we always did. The only thing I said was "Nothing´s okay, mostly with the fucking tips" and just madly walked away.

I thought that he´d just walk away like nothing´s happened but fortunately not this time. He wanted to talk to us (a food runner and friend Dejan (G) and me) about everything. And because I was mad as hell I just told him everything. Every fucking fucked up thing about working in HRC. (He even wrote some notes about it!)

He promised us to fix everything and talk to CH. (the BIG rude server) about the other incident.

I am VERY curious about it. If something´s gonna change but what is good- the Big Ch. came after his shift to apologize and explain everything. He even hugged me in the end of the conversation!

I was so mad and angry that I walked all my way home at 10pm! (Even some killer would change his mind about killing me when I was in that kinda mood :D )

I already asked the manager to give me the most shifts as a Prep and Line cook and less as a FoodRunner. It is fun (well I still don´t know about the LineCook because I haven´t done that yet but it is all about making desserts so I am gonna love it) and even better paid!

Niki is going through hard times in HRC too. As long she´s a host she is paid by hour and not with tips (Lucky her). Unfortunately for her she has so few working hours that she barely has 30 hours per week! (and 32 is the minimum!) She has to talk to a manager too otherwise she´s gonna find another job.

Although it may seem like we are not happy here don´t get us wrong. We are super happy here and we don ´t wanna leave the USA anymore! (I already found my "Green Card-Husband" He proposed in a Meridian Hill park while we were having pique-nique :D ) We are enjoying every single day here, we just don´t want to let others to shit on our head and most importantly---> We HAVE TO go to New York and California and that is not for free either :)

Hope you don´t have to fight with anybody and that you are enjoying your summer! :)
We miss you all! ♥
